Hi All,

My first posting on this list is a 'Hello...' from a Patient-Practitioner Advocate with an IT
background.

BACKGROUND:
-Aircraft/Missile Control Systems Engineer
-Error-Correcting Mechanisms
-Time-Sharing Computing Systems Engineer
-Enterprise Level Computer System and Networks Engineer
-Fault Tolerant Computer Systems and Networks
-Advanced Storage Systems and Networks Engineer
-Software Agent, Expert Systems, Artificial Intelligence Applications
-Performance and Evaluations
-Healthcare Informatics
a)Electronic Prescription
b)Patient Processes, Procedures and Responses
c)Medical Errors
d)Patient Self-Management
e)Knowledge-based Patient and Practitioner support
f)Data Mining and Profiling
g)Electronic Healthcare Records (EHRs)

Current projects include an 'EHR server' and a 'Patient Healthcare Assistant'.

POSITIONS ON HEALTHCARE
-Medical errors are too frequent
-IT needs to be integrated into Healthcare
-Patients need to assume more control over their Healthcare management and processes
-Patient and Practitioner profiles will be very important
-Control over the practice of Healthcare needs to be very tight and closely managed -all of the above need to be implemented and in place before 'personalized drugs' are
integrated
-In-depth knowledge of the Patient and the Practitioners should be available to parties
directly involved
-As an industry we need to know much more about Patients and Practitioners and how
the industry can best serve them

EDUCATION AND TRAINING
-two Engineering degrees on control systems
-two Engineering degrees on Computer Science
-two degress related to English Common Law and the State of California
-I am a Patient with experience
-I have know other Patients with experience
-My parents owned a drugstore

FAVORITES
-Marie Currie (radioactivity)

-Alert Einstein (thinker)
-Norbet Weiner (Cybernetics)
-Jacob Brownowski (Ascent of Man)
-Enrico Fermi (Argonne National Lab)

FUTURE
-Finish prototypes for current projects
-Expand use of EHRs and related tools
-Widen coverage of drug databases
-Look at tools to assist in drug dispensing
-Explore a base for personalized medicine (e.g., drugs)
-Join other Developers in projects of interest
-Community-through-Regional Healthcare Support Centers (e.g., organize)

COMMENT
-gnumed is a good project
-I am pushing a Medicine track for the LSM2005 (we held the first one in 2004).
-Direct involvement of the wider Linux/Unix/Windows community can be viewed
as mining the Developer Community. A copy of the Call is attached. One can
direct questions to Simion or myself.
