[Gnumed-devel] Vertical support vs layered support for EMRs

I am getting close to arrange for my server to host a current version  
of Osc*r for real personal clinical use (while remaining interested  
to try some interoperability with GNUmed).

Locally, the Fedora distro seems favored. However, having spent some  
time and money on someone to do all the setup for me so far under  
Debian, I am reluctant to have all its work (including some extra  
cron and backup and security configuration) all torn down just so it  
can be reloaded with the single distro of "comfort" of the local  
Osc*r service provider.

It seems to me that if an open source EMR ought to be able to run on  
multiple OSs, there is a downside to being made to accept vertical  
solutions. Therefore I have found 3 local companies all of which are  
happy to provide server maintenance and support for Debian and  
willing to partner loosely with whomever would provide the EMR  
application support. That also seems to me a more flexible model if  
an EMR should suddenly start to experience any growth.

Does this sound reasonable, or am I just being difficult and/or  
spiting myself?
