The loading/starting the viewer is rather instantenous in
the typical case (unless you call up that 400 MB open heart
surgery video). The bothersome modality seems to set in
while actually reading the document and being prompted to do
something else in the middle of that.
My best advice would be to have a couple more GNUmed
instances open on the machine in question and switch to an
unused one but that's not everyone's workflow.
Anyways, it's somewhat configurable now.
