Re: [Gnumed-devel] Custom Test Panels?

Thanks for the feedback James and Karsten.  When development starts on Hakuna Matata it will be nice that GNUmed has all of that already set up.  It would be practically impossible (or at least really difficult) to do anything other than design the GUI without that work done on your end.

That being said, I've just had a great idea.  Since people are already making extensions that deal with specific tasks (the mentioned "Jim's? anticoag clinic") how about we get all of these projects organized under Hakuna Matata?   It would be easier to track development, find bugs, get feedback, maintain compatibility with the current GNUmed version, find expertise in making code and document everything.

What say you all?

Response from James Busser:
Am I correct in noticing that GNUmed will have the ability to request individual tests and entire panels from it's interface?

As far as I understand it, GNUmed has the *possibility* (not in the next release, but maybe in one of the next handful) to *enter* (document) lab requests. The first iteration could correspond to a smarter version of a SOAP note entry, in which the detail of a request could be recorded in a record in a clin.lab_request record, along with (in Germany) an identifier for that request.

You are seeking

the ability to create custom panels that can be assigned a hotbutton to order tests quickly

Hotbuttons could permit the *documentation* in GNUmed to be achieved efficiently.

Keep in mind that "ordering" involves somehow communicating what is needed to a lab. We cannot do that electronically in Canada... we must fill out a paper form or set up a mapped template to be able to print onto such a form. Until that could be implemented in GNUmed (down the road) there would be double-entry required.

Yes. But. Not today :-)

Note that our next release (0.2.9) is slated for inclusion of
first iteration, bare-metal lab functionality. Usable for at least
the use case it was written for (Jim's ?anticoag clinic) but expandable
to ?any other requirement.

No and no.

No but I see how that makes sense. It will eventually be there someday.
Jim, this link (or rather a link to Hakuna Matata in general) should be
kept with the lab pages.

Yes, but only eventually.

No.

Yes. Eventually. Help is appreciated :-)
