That's the user-specific preferences remembered from your
last login.

The config file does not HAVE to contain anything else - it
only can. If the settings and profiles in
/etc/gnumed/gnumed-client.conf are sufficient for a user's
purposes they are not required anymore to re-define those
settings in their own config file.

However, their own config file is used to store preferences
nonetheless.

That is because there was no such decision. And that is
because they aren't stripped out. Quite to the contrary,
multiple sources are now much better exploited.
