James,

First, let me tell you that is the first ever screen cast I have tried to make,
But in general, this is what I done to get there.

I installed on an XP machine the following software:

1) Real Vnc (http://www.realvnc.com) - to make the VNC connection to my Ubuntu
box)
2) Cam Studio (http://camstudio.org) - to capture the vnc session as an AVI
video
3) Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) - To record my voice for the
screen cast.

I used Visual Studio to combine the streams to a single file and add titling.
Then exported the video as a DivX v6 (I think) file because for some reason the
XviD codec did not seem to work through it.

Again, this way my first go, so constructive criticism will only help me make a
better video. I hope that this help.

Regards,

Joe Hildreth

I really appreciate that Joe took the time to do it up... I wonder
what he used for screencasting (?)

If anyone tries to view this video from their Mac OS, they should
note that in Safari (and even in Firefox) Apple's Quicktime cannot
properly show the video of this particular .avi codec, however ---
from within Firefox --- you can Save to your hard drive as a "Windows
movie file" and then play it from inside VLC Videolan.

If anyone else would do up such a movie,
(a) it may be nice to wait until the language setting works and
(b) it may be worth mentioning, at the login screen, that anyone who
would like help with an error should check-box the "debug mode" in
order to help to supply extra information in the log files. They can
turn it off again later if they find the "monitoring" window to be
distracting
