The local admin (or the package maintainer in, say, Debian) got
several ways to control this behaviour:
- configure whether to check for updates at all
- configure what to check
- only the same branch this client is on
- or including newer branches
- configure where to check (the URL)
- an admin might want to configure his own gnumed-versions.txt
locally in order to control when the notification appears
It does seem prudent to add a hint that the advertised version
may or may not be packaged yet for the system the check is
being run on, yes. I'll add that.
