I had personally problems with setup.py and was advised by fellow Debian
maintainers to rather ignore this.

It makes some assumptions which are not really valid.  It starts with
the fact that you are not installing to /usr but to `pwd`/debian/tmp/usr
and other things.

Sure.  That's why I said that there is always the chance that I'm wrong.

Hmm, does not really sound simple compared to installing a package.
