There is another problem: domains.

Sure we could relocate to other hosting packages but there is risk that during
the transition the domain will be grabbed by domain grabbers.
http://www.gnumed.com/

You can buy it from them for 1000 Euro, what a joke.

Wiki: does not need root access but is helpful

Live-CD: I have no stats. The download traffic suggests that every now and
then someone is pulling the image. Live CDs are generally underestimated but I
believe that is their fate. Can be done on a local debian machine and uploaded
to any webspace.

All other content can either go away or be hosted elsewhere.

I wonder what is needed on the hosting site. I guess one has root access to a
server there is little chance to configure pg_hba.conf and the likes.

Re business plan. What is there can be monetized but it depends largely on the
clients to decide if all features are there or not.

In my view the best approach would be to identify real potential clients. The
project as an entity (e.g. foundation) should code the features most wanted.

I want to stress one point that most of the time leads to confusion.

GNUmed was started by Horst Herb. Horst left the project or at least did not
actively participate for some time. Karsten took over most of the coding. So
by choice he leads the project. He did not claim that position nor was he
elected.

Neither me nor Karsten == GNUmed. Let me spell that out. GNUmed is a project.
A project is never a person. A project has a leader. Often that leader is
elected. Sometimes whoever leads (by doing work) is the leader.

That means currently there is no entity that could claim the GNUmed project.
Ideally a foundation, non profit or whatnot would be set up. All domains ,
copyleft and whatnot should be transferred to that entity. This foundation
would collect funds and engage in business partnerships.

Apart from that any number of companies could do business with that foundation
or take the code and do whatever they please. All this is taken care of for us
by the GPL.

Palmedtech is a company that is looking into marketing GNUmed. They can sell
services around GNUmed as is without any need for working with upstream (as
long as the company adheres to the terms of the GPL) or they could choose work
with upstream.
