[Gnumed-devel] Python encoding and UTF-8

I noticed in one of my logs

level is [DEBUG]

file encoding is <utf8>

(/home/jbusser/gm/06rc3/Gnumed/pycommon/gmLog2.py::__setup_logging() #235): 
initial python.str -> python.unicode encoding is <ANSI_X3.4-1968>

Is it intended or preferred that my python encoding also be UTF-8 and is this 
maybe something users need to alter from some default installations of Pythons 
on their OS?
