By all means should people go ahead and assess their concrete needs.

That's true enough - we for example support the xDT format for exporting
patient demographics. I didn't even think of that.

Sort of, yes. OTOH the invoicing software will also need to be taught
about medical billables. That, likely, wouldn't overly concern GNUmed
as such in the first iterations, however. A bit of discussion on that
already exists on the wiki.
