Wishing is OK.
A workaround may be the fact that GNUmed now (0.9) allows
the user to configure a certain font to be used for the
client. That way a desirable font with special symbols in
convenient places can be configured such that boxes etc are
drawable.
Remember, GNUmed is fully Unicode aware. I find that
www.fileformat.info is an excellent place to find out about
unicode symbols...
