Further about encounters, suppose a configuration was for a maximum of 2 hours,
and at 2 hrs and 10 minutes the clinician had omitted documenting something in
the last encounter (maybe they got called away to deal with an emergency) and
their preference would be to not create a new encounter to finish documenting
what they had not been able to input before being called away.

Well, if their maximum had instead been set to 2:30, they would have the choice
of whether or not to create a new one. Presently, they do not have the choice.
There is no "clinical" requirement document under a new encounter, because the
documentation itself (e.g. SOAP rows in a progress note) receives their own
timestamp anyway, and the encounter is just a grouping tool.

So... in to-be 1.2, where it is possible in the top ribbon to click the "L"
button to list existing encounters, could it be possible to "set focus" on an
earlier encounter instead of the defaulted new encounter, such that the
selection now populates the "being worked on" encounter in the top ribbon?

The "set focus" opens a can of worms (people will lose track which
encounter they are "on").

But the clinician can choose to [Save under] the "old" encounter.
