I installed gnumed fresh installation.  
No problem so far. Let me try now miktex. Hope it is also smooth. 
Off topic, latex make gnumed really bulky.

Ubuntun 12.04. I am using it on a daily basis :-)

I have not gotten around to build packages for it but it runs fine with the old 
packages for 11.10 and/or the latest release candiadate from tgz file.

I have tested both Unity for Ubuntu and KDE for Kubuntu and both seem to work 
fine with GNUmed.
