Back in the days the decision was made to use wxpython. This made it possible
to support Windows, Linux and in principle MacOS.
Recent discussion has shown that it is not always that easy. A few moments ago
I read that Windows 8 is around the corner and the even get Redhat to pay for
getting access to future PCs (UEFI boot).
This made me think. In the future we would have to support Windows XP, Windows
7, WIndows 8, various Linux distributions and various MacOSes.
We could bypass this by thinking hard about webbased interfaces. As long as
there is Firefox or Google Chrome on it you are good to go. Only problem might
be hardware support such a interfacing to webcams, scanners and whatnot. But
for the average office this might not be a problem.
