That is quite possible.

There is indeed. On Linux GNUmed tries the following:
- gtklp
- gm-print_doc.sh
On Windows it tries the following:
- gsprint.exe
- acrocread.exe
- Python os.startfile()
- Internet Explorer
- gm-print_doc.bat
