I just had a quick look at it. Seems like it works by sending a Tab key to GNUmed to "tab" into the next field.
Clever idea. This should work in most places where tab would actually advance the cursor to the next input field. I guess it would fail in cases where tab is not advancing the cursor to the next input field but input e.g. 4 spaces (e.g. in a python code editor)
If something like this would be implemented in GNUmed itself the text expander would have to be told if tab as in 4 spaces or tab as in go to next field is wanted.
Moreover sometime you might want to expand a text template in an input field where there is just one (not s o a p). In that case strange things would happen.
In other words external solutions such as autohotkey are the way to go for the moment.
