gm-backup_database.sh

only backs up the database. If you want it zipped up you
need to run gm-zip+sign_backups.

This approach gives admins more freedom in CRONing backups.

While tar is certainly older it is not less efficient. In
fact, relative to bzip2 it is not intended to be in any way
efficient. It is an archive format, not a compression format.

Inside that bz2 you will find a tar.
