Alert fatigue is a well-known and somewhat studied
phenomenon among EMR users.
To combat such in a responsible way I have added dynamic hint
suppression to GNUmed. A hint can be dismissed with a single
keystroke any time but will be displayed upon next activation
of a patient.
Hints can now, however, also be suppressed until further
notice by entering a rationale for suppression (doesn't
apply: ..., handled as of ..., agreed to ignore as of ...,
etc) on a per-patient basis. When a hint is deleted from the
database its suppressions will automatically get deleted,
too. When a hint is modified such will be detected by GNUmed,
any existing suppression will be ignored, and the hint will
need to be re-suppressed as appropriate on a per-patient
basis.
