  There are a few ways of doing this that Ive seen, place
 your PDF files somewhere which is served by Apache, then
 use something similar to htDig to provide search facilities.

  Nah, it's a different market completely.

  Many index+search programs will present a google-like GUI
 to an indexed collection of PDF/html/text documents though.
 Search freshmeat.net for a few ..
