The only new feature is the "gnunet-tracekit" application that allows you to 
plot the GNUnet topology of peers that support this feature (see the main 
GNUnet page for an example plot). Yes, this is a little bit of spy-ware, but 
only to help the developers get a better idea what the network looks like. 
Not to mention that you can just not load the module.

Other than the usual slay of bugs that were killed (segfault here, deadlock 
there), the memory usage of TCP was reduced by a factor of 40 (64k buffer per 
connection if not used is just excessive...). Also, GNUnet now searches 
/etc/gnunet.conf for a site-wide configuration file. This should make it 
easier to configure GNUnet once, run one gnunetd for the entire host and have 
multiple users use it.

GNUnet 0.5.2 is protocol compatible with GNUnet 0.5.1.

Oh, and if you missed it so far, libextractor 0.2.2 has been released. The new 
version fixes some dynamic loading issues and features support for ZIP files.
