I am not sure if it is worth trying to always avoid depenencies, especially when it could simplify the code
and make life easier in other ways (XML editors etc.).

On the other hand
emacs/vi people would not probably like this...

Apache products already use it, so we wouldn't be the only ones...


Right. And it is still possible to edit the files with text editors (that's how I usually edit XML files anyway ;-)

But then it would be trivial to configure gnunet by
just using an xml editor.

A graphical frontend with help texts would be "trivial" ;-)

Hmm... I guess you are hinting that it is not possible to include help texts for fields?
As for frontend, every modern system should have an xml editor ?
