since I have now an x86 box and it runs FreeBSD I can say it runs very 
well In general gnustep usage I didn't found more problems than I found 
on linux/x86 or linux/ppc. FreeBSD is something between linux and netbsd 
so it really usually jsut works, often it is more linux friendly than 
netbsd. I wouldn't worry too much. Also since it is x86 it presents no 
particular endiannes and alignment troubles (well, I don't know how the 
status of 64bit sutff is).
I have noticed only some small problems here and there in some 
applications like relying on /proc file system or specific tab files in 
/etc but those are more generic porting problems
