I agree.  Like you've suggested, we should use this as an opportunity to 
re-write it to use the latest standard.

Yes, this is a compile time copy of a file used in the xlib backend. No
problem when we leave this tool as LGPL and probably even OK, when we
change it to GPL.

No, here we don't have the copyright. It is the xdnd.c mentioned below.
After reading through the code again I am no longer sure whether we
still need part of the XDnD implementation or not. I know for sure that
the part, where we try to provide data was wrongly placed here. The code
in pasteboardChangedOwner belongs into XDDragView and is already there.
To give a better educated answer here, I would need to recheck all the
DnD code and some old discussions with Wim.
But we need a solution for the xdnd.c file any as it is also used in the
x11 code.

Yes. What is your suggestion? We could try to write our own xdnd.m file,
