I began typing a lengthy reply without looking closely into what SimpleWebKit really is. While skimming over the source tree of GNUstep, I was for some reason under the impression that it was a wrapper around WebKit.

Now I see it's a simple implementation of a rendering engine. Quite an interesting undertaking! However, perhaps a name change would be in order to avoid confusing people about what the purpose really is.

Also, on-topic, Berkellium can be used to render stuff into RGB arrays, so it might be used as a basis for a "real" engine. It uses Chromium internally, so it could probably be used to render stuff in GNUstep views.

Can you say a few words about Mozilla's decisions?

Personally, I prefer WebKit-based browsers due to perceived speed (problems fixed only in FF4), due to some problems I discovered when working on some complex CSS voodoo, and due to some problems with standards that I discovered (for example, with sessionStorage, that manifested themselves only on FF - some in FF3.5, and others in FF3.6)
.

Hi,

well, I don't think they are comparable, aren't they? And even if people would help SWK more, they never will be... different things... different goals.
I'd love actually a Gecko engine more, but I read very sad news about decisions by the Mozilla foundation what will for example make Camino perhaps impossible...

Hello

Would it be possible to take the chromium project (kinda google chrome), which
exists for mac os x (cocoa) and make that a gnustep version?

Gurkan

Why would you do that? Doesn't SimpleWebkit work for you?
