I confirm there is some sort of problem like that.
When I was trying to make a 32-bit build of GNUstep and for that I had to add extra linker flags like "-L/usr/lib32", they were disregarded.

Actually, I correct myself, using latest SVN stuff, I notice LIBS gets used and respected. I retried and now get a different error.
