I haven't applied this because there was some talk on the list (which
you appeared to agree with) that a more general-purpose validator like 
jsonlint might be better suited for this application.

If you decide this specialized script is better, please wrote a patch that 
puts it in devtools/, with an explanatory comment in devtools/README.
