There is a TSO that specifies GPS standards for aircraft usage.  They
require that aircraft GPS have one more sat in use for 3D than minimally
required for a fix.  Then the GPS computed altitude is compared to a
barometric altimeter.  If the multiple GPS solutions do not match each
other, or match the barometric altitude, then the GPS must flash a RAIM
error.

I could prolly dig out the TSO for you, but that above is basically all
the goodness you would get from it.

In a modern transport category aircraft the multiple GPS are just more
sensors, along with ILS, VOR, INS, radar altimeter, etc. that are fed
into the master nav computer.
