We haven't had bug reports that fit that error pattern, or I'd have
found and fixed the problem years ago. It's quite easy to spot if
you run the daemon at -D 8. I guess we've been lucky.
Come to think of it, though, this might also to some extent reflect the
dominance of USB among our userbase.
