In metric land (everywhere by Libya, Myanmar and the USA) the 's' stands for the unit Siemens. This has caused confusion. We agreed to placate the heathen that use metric to use the internal abbreviation for seconds: Sec.
In metric land, a capital 'S' is Siemens (electrical conductance), and a miniscule 's' is seconds. So if a lower-case 's' is good for non-metric too, that looks cleaner to me than 'sec' or 'Sec' or anything else.
That does however not deal with the nastier greek micro prefix letter. Cheers, Håkan
