Yeah, I like Python better as well. I only mentioned Perl because it was very awk-like in some respects.

Of the programming languages I know, Perl is the one for which I have my highest defect injection rate. Not only is Perl hard to maintain, it's hard to get right in the first place.

Andy, it's GPSD project policy to prefer Python for scripting. Shell is
acceptable. Perl is not; I consider the maintainability penalty too high.
