My SiRF-IV works OK in SiRF binary mode.

It's USB, so no PPS, and the serial timing has 100 ms of wander, just like 
all the other SiRF chips.  But it keeps on delivering data.

gpsmon running direct and through gpsd hasn't filled in packet types 7, or 
27: Clock Status, DGPS Status.  Packet type 9, CPU Throughput is all 0s.

With a SiRF III, gpsmon does show numbers for CPU Throughput and DGPS Status.
