I'll help if I can, but *BSD not my thing.

I have found that a 16GB or 32GB Thumb Drive will do in a pinch.  Not
too slow if you can be on USB 3.  Or maybe even a live CD with just the
gpsd and ntpd parts on a thumb drie.
