It may be more disagree than misunderstand.
Having tests is great. But relying on them as the main mechanism is
like using your ABS and stability control all the time.
I have only objected recently, when it feels like running a genetic
algorithm and evaluating fitness by mailinglist complaints. One of the
issues is whether others who are helping are willing to continue. It
has felt like every time I spend any time looking into anything the next
day it's all changed. So it starts to feel like a waste of time, which
has caused me to wonder if should just stop.
So I would suggest coding as carefully as if you didn't have good tests,
and then also having good tests.
