I have since forward-ported xgppspeed.  Unlike cgps, which is dependent on
the compiled clienthelpers module, "python3 xgpsspeed" can be tested in place
on current Ubuntu.  So we're now completely moved to Gtk 3.0 using Python-GI.

A side effect of this was an update I just finished to Practical Python Porting:

It describes how to get over the bumps in the transition to Python-GI. Which
aren't really bad, but there are some inexplicablr gaps in the documentation.
