This reduces the size of the binary and may be
helpful on embedded systems or for SBCs like the Raspberry Pi, Odroid,
or BeagleBone.

This way of doing it is a little easier to turn into #defines.
Parsing a full spec like that would add significant complexoty
to the build recipe for a rarely used case.
