9 is a small number.

What I was trying to say is that if you print out a number and read it back 
in, you may not get the same low order bits.  If they matter, you may get a 
different result if you work with the numbers before printout as compared to 
reading in the numbers in and doing the same computation.

If it matters, print it out in hex.
