As a datapoint, I have an old mac running 10.11 that I unsuspend
occasioanlly for testing. It is configured to suspend after 1 hour of
idle, when running on the AC adaptor. I have gpsd on it, and ran "gpsd
-n" with a ublox7 usb gps mouse. I measured how long it stayed awake
(specificallly, responding to ping), and it was exactly 60 minutes, just
as it is supposed to be. So gpsd running seemed to have zero effect.

I realize this is one OS<,and others may vary. Someday I will try the
same experiment with ubutnu.
