Please not yet another tool that nobody knows about.
Remember, there are a lot of people out there who need to work with the
chosen tool and might now want to read excessive amounts of
documentation to do so.

Imho the only useful alternative is cmake. Or meson, if you really think so.

cmake is spread a lot, it is very easy to use and build with, cross
building and a lot of facy stuff is easy to implement and there are a
lot of modules existing for various sane and insane cases.
