Sadly, yes, but very little of note.  For example the startup NMEA
messages tell you things unavailable otherways.

Could you set a flag when you see binary and just skip any
NMEA if the flag is set?

No way to "skip", but just turn NMEA off:

   # gpsctl -b

Which is precisely what's been broken for about two months (in addition to the automatic binary switching).

or:

   # ubxtool -d NMEA

Also broken. I haven't previously investigated the -e/-d NMEA/BINARY, but should include it in testing.
