I think I have it figured out. The current implementation I have does
some things I am not proud of, but I think I can file the edges. Right
now, the version has to be hardcoded in a couple of places, Python <
3.7 is deliberately excluded and other assorted warts. Not sorry for
the necromancy. What are the chances I can take it over from you?

It is both a shame and a joy that people forget things.
