In GNU troff, the escape character set with the `ec' request is local
to the current environment. According to the UNIX troff manual, this
is not true in UNIX troff. Can someone check this?
Shall GNU troff's behaviour be changed to the old UNIX troff behaviour
(in case the UNIX troff manual is right) if in compatibility mode?
And what about the field delimiting and padding characters which are
handled as global by both GNU and Unix troff? IMHO, this should also
be made local.
