[Groff] drawing without moving?

Is there some way that I can say

        when you get to the end of the page, go back to the middle, draw
        some PIC stuff, and then break to the next page?

I'm having a tough time with this.  I can get text to work but PIC is not
cooperating.  Has anyone done such a thing?

While we're on the topic, how about this?  Suppose I'm in the middle of
my doc and I want to stash a little note in the margin and then come back.
Sort of like a foot note.  Does anyone have a package that does this?
