Thanks to all who answered my questions.  In resume:
- paperlength set to 841890 (was indeed +- correctly set by Suse to 841996).
- my error!: PGFORM was 27.5c; now corrected to 29.7 (apparently that 2.2c
  is taken of the top.
- tmac.m modified to include only "'sp 1" (was 'sp 3) in the address@hidden 
  definition.
Result: as I like it.
