[Groff] Italian hyphenation file

I installed my

        /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/hyphen/ithyph.tex

as

        /usr/share/groff/1.18/tmac/hyphen.it

Groff complains:

parameters.ms:2: `^' only allowed as `^^xx' in hyphenation patterns file

I don't really have time for digging into this problem now. I would be
very grateful if someone could send me good and tested Italian and Latin
hyphenation files. Please someone
