Is this GNU or AFPL? (I'm assuming Slackware would include only the GNU
GPL'ed version).

I'm using the latest CVS. This can't be a metric problem, since it
affects only the *glyph outlines*; it has something (I think) to do with
the way the gs pdf device interprets the postscript prologue in
symbolsl.pfa. So far we have
Double-slanted Greek
GNU gs 6.53 N
GNU gs 7.05 Y&N (!)
AFPL gs 8.00 Y
<sigh> Every time I upgrade from gs 6.53, something sends me scurrying
back before long: This time I lasted a whole 3 weeks with AFPL 8.00...
