At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, this problem can be  
fixed by creating the same EPS image in gimp and sam2p and then running  
them through diff to confirm Keith's observation.  Then you can either  
use gimp, or if you wish to persevere with sam2p you can add a final  
pipe through sed (or awk or whichever p... you fancy) to delete or  
amend the unnecessary/malformed line of data.
