Groff (GNU troff) is a typesetting system...
It does not mention "roff".
There is no "GNU roff" project; it's the GNU groff project.
Smells of retronym by the writer of history. :-)
I think all "GNU roff" mentions in groff's source are plain wrong.
Most roff mentions are faulty for abusing a term that died out in the
1970s, along with Ossanna's roff program when it was superseded by
nroff and troff.
