there is little reason to distinguish between releases - the
libre linux modules do not change very often - if some hardware
works with trisquel7, it almost certainly works with any later
release - if some hardware is indicated as working with
trisquel7, all that really signifies is when the entry was
added; and it gives the false impression that it _only_ works
with trisquel7 - specifying specific releases, is probably
less helpful than a single option for each distro - in that case,
the whitelist would only need attention when a new distro is
endorsed, not every time one of them has a new release

its another good reason _not_ to have a whitelist; but to allow
any distro string submitted by the client - perhaps the web
interface could use the whitelist, only to populate an options
selector - alternatively, we could ensure that all FSDG distros
distribute h-client, and insist that it is the only way to
interact with the database - that could alleviate the spam
problem significantly; and the whitelist (if there is one) would
only need to be maintained in the client

but again, i dont think there should be any whitelist - the only
value of it, is to promote FSDG distros and discourage (indeed
forbid) others - but in that case, debian should not be an option
