pulling a file from a set of machines

I have a set of machines, all listed in a class.
I'd like to write a copy rule to pull copies of a file from each member
of the set if they change.

I can understand how to do it with a variable and iteration, but I have
to create a redundant variable to do so.

Is there a way to coerce a class into a variable in some manner, or some
other way to look at this problem?
